The California Environmental Protection Agency established the goal of 0.02 parts per billion of less for chromium 6. This level will be used by California’s Department of Public Health to create legally enforceable limits.
Immediate Health Impact
Establishing a goal helps municipalities begin implementing measures to reduce hexavalent chromium from the water supply even before the states sets the final regulations.
The film “Erin Brockovich” spotlighted the issue of water contamination from hexavalent chromium in the town of Hinkley, California.
Originally, the California legislature required limits be established in 2004. However, there were delays, including proving the chemical is toxic when ingested, although the harmful effects of inhalation were already known.
You may have noticed WEEE and wondered what it is about.
To start, we need to peek inside your computer, cell phone, and applicances to look at the control boards, circuitry and electronics. What we'd find is the electronics use all sorts of highly toxic and hazardous materials. When these electronic devices break or become obsolete, they often go to landfill. That raises serious problems because the toxic materials inside the electronics can then get into the environment. This is a massive global issue, generically referred to as toxic e-waste.
Passed by the European Union (EU) in 2002, WEEE is an attempt to address the e-waste problem. WEEE promotes the collection, re-use and recycling of electrical equipment to keep e-waste out of our landfills.
What is RoHS?
Adopted by the EU in 2003, the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive, or RoHS, is closely linked to WEEE. Often referred to as the lead-free directvie, RoHS establishes limits on the use of six hazardous substances used in the manufacture of various types of electornic and electircal equipment.
Where WEEE seeks to minimize the e-waste stream going to landfill by establishing recycling goals and targets, RoHS minimizes the use of hazardous materials in the products and components by design. RoHS standards establish usage limits at the point of design and manufacture. Right up front, we can choose to be smarter about our products, eliminating lead and mercury by design.
We WEEE and RoHS!
Even though these are European directive, our Innowave products are all WEEE and RoHS compliant. They are designed with the end in mind, to minimize the use of hazardous materials and to be recycled. And we think that is good for our environment. Do you WEEE and RoHS? We think everyone should!
We know the tight economic conditions are squeezing non-profit organizations, twice, from decreased dontations and increased demand.
The slow recovery had hit a lot of businesses as well; we've had plenty of customers downsize, relocate, close offices, or go out of business. So we'd like to take the opportunity to turn lemons into lemonaide.
If you are, or know of, a worthy non-profit organization that is currently spending money on bottled water, contact us! We'd like to help. Contact us link.
Hetch Hetchy water flowing to San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) customers has an additional level of microbiological protection thanks to a newly constructed, state-of-the-art Tesla Water Treatment Facility. The $114 million dollar plant near Tracy, California treats water with a series of ultraviolet (UV) lights. The newly dedicated plant is part of multiple redundant treatment system to protect heath and safety for the SFPUC's 2.5 million customers. It is the largest UV plant in California and the third largest in the US.
Water treatment plants around the US are moving to UV water treatment. UV is very effective, repeatable, less expensive to operate, and safer than chemical alternatives. Chemical alternatives require consumable gases, which are highly hazardous, and expensive to purchase and handle. Chlorine gas leaks can be deadly for employees and people living downwind.
San Francisco tap water comes from pristine snowmelt in the Sierras near Yosemite National Park and is among the best tap water in the nation. It is also an amazing bargain, costing less than 1/2 cent per gallon and it tested over 100,000 times a year. Put that in perspective: a 1 liter bottle of water costs less than 1/16 of a cent to fill. Support the SFPUC's Drink Tap Campaign!
We are very grateful for the abundance of repeat business we receive, and the many wonderful referrals our customers send our way. We believe it says a lot about our company and the great customer service we offer.
And that got us thinking, how can we give back in a meaningful way.
We’re on a mission. We want to improve people’s lives by improving water quality, reducing waste, and improving the environment. We would love your help.
If you know someone that could benefit from our home water conditioning, or business water purification solutions, please let us know!
In return, we will pay you, your business, or organization $100.00 if the lead you provide turns into a qualified sale or lease.
But there’s another option, a more meaningful option: You can help us change the world.
You see, every day, nearly 1 Billion people have limited access to safe, clean drinking water. That is 1 in 6. The results are tragic: worldwide, 1 out of 4 deaths under the age of 5 are due to a water related disease.
Lack of access to safe, clean drinking water impacts every aspect of life. Hauling water is delegated to women and children. Walking to and from remote water sources is time consuming and exhausting. It exposes them to physical danger. It keeps them out of work and away from school where they could learn needed skills. The contaminated water they collect often leads to water borne disease, dehydration, even death--a literal death spiral.
We can change that.
You can choose to have Aquaprix donate the $100.00 to charity: water. charity: water is a non-profit organization that funds clean and safe drinking water projects in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. 100% of the proceeds given to charity: water will directly fund clean water solutions.
What can $100.00 do? It can provide clean water to 10 people.
So keep the $100 or donate it. It’s your choice. Either way, we are improving people’s lives.
Thank you for helping, we cannot do it without you!
